Father Awarded Possession Of Abused Daughter

Chicago, IL– Dec. 19, 2008 After the mother’s live-in boyfriend’s alleged sexual abuse of her ten year old daughter, Cook County Circuit Court Judge John Thomas Carr awarded possession of the girl and her twelve year old brother to the father of the children today.

The father’s attorneys, Jeffery M. Leving and Art Kallow, successfully obtained an Order removing the children from the mother, after a Chicago man, Columbo Galindo, age 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of the daughter.

The children’s father believes the mother was negligent by not protecting the daughter and not providing a positive home environment.  A petition to change custody is pending and a hearing on the Order of Protection has been scheduled for Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at 12:00 noon in courtroom 1603A of the Daley Center in Chicago.

“In this sensitive case, we had to move swiftly for the safety and well-being of the children involved,” said Mr. Leving.  “Furthermore, this case is a possible example of why statistics frighteningly demonstrate that father absence increases a child’s vulnerability to abuse”, said Leving.
