Diligent Father Prevents Alleged Child Abduction to Mexico

CHICAGO – Oct, 13, 2011 – Attorney Jenet Pequeño of the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd., reunited a Chicago father with his two young daughters, ages 1 1/2 and 2 1/2, preventing the mother from abducting the children to an alleged notoriously high drug-crime area of Mexico.

The mother removed the children from Illinois to Texas which is a direct route to her parents and numerous relatives near Zacatecas, Mexico. “We were worried she was on her way to Mexico and needed to take legal action fast before she could cross the border where the children could disappear,” said Pequeño.

Time is critical in suspected parental abductions because many US children have been abducted to Mexico and never returned to the US. In 2009 and 2010 alone, the number of American children abducted to Mexico grew to 500 according to the US State Department. It is vital that children are recovered while still in the US -irrespective of the procedures in place to reunite children with their parents pursuant to the Hague Convention, an international treaty to prevent child abductions that does not always work.

Pequeño immediately obtained an Emergency Order of Protection from Judge Vega in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. Pequeño then coordinated litigation inTexas whereTexas counsel used theIllinois order of protection in theTexas proceedings.  The dad and his children are now on their way back to Chicago.

“Evil triumphs when good men do nothing,” said Pequeño. “Failure was not an option here.”

“This is a happy ending, however not all cases end up with such a victory. Thanks to the tenacity and strategic planning of Jenet Pequeño, a possible tragedy was avoided,” commented Leving, founder of http://dadsrights.com.
